Fractured Reflections / by C.W. Bigelow

It has begun
appearing,
a familiar
twinge of
excitement.

Is it my
imagination,
or is warmth
floating from
across the room?

Can I reach out
and touch you
without
a jerked
recoil in return?

Will
there be a
returned squeeze
instead of
a disinterested

sigh
that echoes
from my shoulder
where you hide
your head

to avoid
my lips—
once
an oasis,
a haven,

now a
desert
to avoid
at all costs?
Is there

a warming
in our
world,
the melting
of ice walls?

Or am I
dreaming—
escaping
into a mirage
again—

living
in the bizarro
world
of fractured
reflections?
